Report: West Brom deal for Joleon Lescott not imminent, despite Aston Villa links

Lescott And Barry

West Brom are not looking to offer Lescott a contract, despite Aston Villa wanting to sign him.

According to the Birmingham Mail, West Brom are not planning to offer Joleon Lescott a new contract, despite reports linking him with a move to Aston Villa.

Sky Sports reported that Villa wanted to bring in Lescott this summer, and after losing his place in the weekend’s draw with Watford, it appears as if the centre-back’s future is up in the air.

The 32-year-old has just one year left on his deal at the Hawthorns, and with them now not willing to offer him a new contract, it is likely they will be looking to sell Lesoctt before the transfer window closes at the end of this month.

The Mail report states that Villa wanted to make a £1 million move for the defender, and Tony Pulis is willing to accept that fee to ensure Lescott is sold for a price, rather than losing him for free next summer.

There are not said to be any issues between Pulis and Lescott, with his omission against Watford merely a tactical decision, but the manager wants to keep strengthening his side, with Lescott’s sale allowing him to invest in the squad.
