Report: Pochettino U-turns on Bender; where does that leave Spurs?

The Tottenham Hotspur boss is said to be having second thoughts on the German. But does that leave the north London side with big transfer problems?

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has performed somewhat of a U-turn when it comes to his side's pursuit of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Sven Bender, according to the London Evening Standard.

Indeed, the 26-year-old's history of injury trouble has reportedly left Pochettino reconsidering the north London club's pursuit of the Dortmund man.

The Standard report that Pochettino will therefore consider alternative midfield options. But, crucially, none are mentioned.

Transfer problems brewing?

That leaves Tottenham with yet another problem position to look at with increasingly little time remaining in the transfer window.

The north London side's pursuit of a winger and forward - specifically Yannick Bolasie and Saido Berahino, as reported by BBC Sport and the Daily Mirror - has demonstrated the pitfalls of leaving things late.

But, on top of their need to strengthen in the final third, Spurs still need a central midfielder. And, if Pochettino is having second thoughts on Bender, who is there realistically that Tottenham can sign?

Daniel Levy's tendency to do last-minute business has been well documented. Rarely have the White Hart Lane outfit been this short going into the last couple of weeks of the window, however. It's not a disaster yet - but action is desperately needed.
