Report: Derby eye Dale Stephens after failing with Jacob Butterfield move

Derby County are reportedly interested in signing Dale Stephens from Championship rivals Brighton & Hove Albion.

Derby County are interested in signing Dale Stephens from Brighton & Hove Albion this month, according to The Sun.

It has been reported by the British tabloid that the Rams will pay as much as £2.5 million as transfer fee for the services of the midfielder.

The Sun claims that Derby are moving for the 25-year-old midfielder after failing to sign Jacob Butterfield from Championship rivals Huddersfield Town.

Dale Stephens stats

Stephens is 25 years of age and has been on the books of Championship outfit Brighton since January 2014.

The former Charlton Athletic man scored two goals and created 18 chances in 14 Championship appearances for the Seagulls during the second half of the 2013-14 season.

The former Bury midfielder had a pass accuracy of 83% and a shot accuracy of 28%, and won 17 headers, four dribbles and 31 tackles.

During the 2014-15 campaign for Brighton, Stephens scored two goals and created 27 chances in 16 Championship games.

The Englishman had a pass accuracy of 84% and a shot accuracy of 38%, and won 15 headers, two dribbles and 22 tackles.

So far this season, Stephens has created five chances in three league games; he has a pass accuracy of 81% and a shot accuracy of 50%, and has won five headers and four tackles.
