According to the Scotsman, Celtic are interested in signing Brandon Barker on a loan deal from Manchester City, as Ronny Deila targets another attacking player before the close of the transfer window.
The England youth international is considered one of the brightest prospects in the City academy, and recently signed a new five-year contract to remain at the Etihad Stadium.
However, first-team chances are unlikely at City - especially considering the impressive form they have started the season in - and Celtic believe they will be able to prise him away on a season-long loan.
The Bhoys have a good relationship with City due to the recent loan signing of Jason Denayer, who improved massively via a temporary spell at Parkhead.
If Barker is guaranteed the same kind of development path, it is unlikely they will prevent the 18-year-old securing a switch north of the border - if Celtic’s interest is genuine.
Who is Brandon Barker?
Barker is an 18-year-old winger, who has already appeared for City’s senior team in non-competitive action. He naturally plays on the left-wing, but is also able to feature on the right and as a number 10.
Regarded for his technical skills, Barker is seen as an exceptional player, trained in a style of football not usually associated with England. He is a key member of City’s Under-21 squad despite his young age, and it is not expected to be too long before he makes the step up to senior level.
A season spent playing competitively with Celtic could be the perfect step in the youngster’s development, and it appears as if he has all the talents to impress under the tutelage of Ronny Deila.
