Hansen has some tough competition from this lot and their stupidity!
Prepare yourself because we're about to drop a knowledge bomb; football pundits say really stupid things quite often...Big shock, right?
However, on this day in 1995, Liverpool legend Alan Hansen muttered those six little words which Sir Alex Ferguson spent more than a decade ridiculing: "You'll can't win anything with kids."
20 years ago today Alan Hansen said this... https://t.co/puxH0YQZm1— Top Corner (@HITCtopcorner) August 19, 2015
Hansen was talking on Match of the Day after Manchester United's 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa in the wake of selling three of their star players; Paul Ince, Mark Hughes, and Andrei Kanchelskis earlier that summer and replacing them with the likes of David Beckham and Gary Neville. Now as we all know, poor Alan was proved wrong within a matter of moths as Fergie pulled off the league and cup double.
In fact, Fergie and his hairdryer treatment went on to win 28 trophies since Hansen's mad comments which left him looking like a right tool.
However, where does he rank against his other pundits on saying really, really stupid things? Well, here are five other bizarre and downright silly comments.
1. Andy Townsend
“Arsenal have the wind in their sails and they need to put their foot to the floor.”
Hands up if you miss him!
2. Ray Hudson
"Ozil could find the needle in a haystack with his sense of smell"
3. Ed Chamberlain and Graeme Souness
"Is he a top, top player or just a top player, Graeme?" "I wouldn't say he was a top, top player but he's definitely a top player."
Cheers Sky Sports...
4. Clive Tydesley
"Didier Drogba's just a big loveable lump. Graham Norton seemed to get inside him last night"
Ooo, i say!
5. Garth Crooks
Michael Owen will get double figures this season - or at least 10, possibly more.
