Aston Villa media round-up: Boilesen links resurface, Norwich lead Afobe chase

Trinity Road Stand - Aston Villa

A selection of stories in the media involving Aston Villa in the last 24 hours.

Kieran Richardson is not a target for Sunderland, according to the Sunderland Echo.

Reports emerged yesterday claiming that the Black Cats were interested in the £2 million Villa man but the player is not believed to be on Dick Advocaat’s radar.

Villa are again being linked with Ajax captain Nicolai Boilesen, by the likes of the Birmingham Mail.

The 23-year old was also thought to be interesting Genoa before he put the brakes on any potential move to Italy, leaving the door open for the Villains to swoop in.

Tim Sherwood’s pursuit of further firepower upfront has hit a snag with The Sun claiming that Norwich are leading the chase for Wolves hotshot Benik Afobe.

The 22-year old was the country’s highest scorer last season and seems odds on for a Premier League move, with who remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, Sherwood has given an update on the outgoing business he expects to be done before the close of the window.

In quotes published by the Express, the Villa boss said:

"There are still some players here who know they can find other clubs… but I think the balance of the squad is getting a lot better."

Finally, Villa mainstay Ashley Westwood has heaped praise on his new midfield colleagues, in an interview with AVTV.

“Iddy’s been brilliant. Against Manchester United, he was full of energy, and Jordan’s really composed on the ball too. He can score goals and hopefully he will show that on Saturday [at Crystal Palace]."
