A return to La Liga with Villarreal was supposed to represent a fresh start for Roberto Soldado but we are not so sure now…
Roberto Soldado will forever be remembered as an expensive flop by fans of Tottenham Hotspur but things were supposed to be different with new club Villarreal.
The Spaniard has moved to the Yellow Submarine for £10 million deal after scoring just 16 goals in 76 games for the Lilywhites.
Prior to his spell in north London, however, Soldado had shone in La Liga with Valencia, scoring 81 goals in 141 games for Los Che.
But if Villarreal fans are hoping that a return to Spanish climes could coincide with a return to form, they could be seriously mistaken.
That certainly looks to be the case based on early exchanges with the clubs fans, which showcased just how off the boil Soldado really is.
A tweet sent out by Villarreal showcased this very issue, with Soldado twice attempting and twice failing to kick a ball into a nearby crowd of supporters who were there to welcome him to the club.
The first effort is bad enough, with the Spaniard hitting his shot wide of the rather large target area of fans.
But just when you think it can’t get worse it does with Soldado skying his second attempt
Mind you if anyone can get the best out of this Tottenham flop it’s Villarreal – they not only helped Giovani Dos Santos find form again but even got Diego Forlan scoring!
