Report: Sunderland not interested in signing Aston Villa’s Kieran Richardson

Sunderland were linked with making a move for Aston Villa man Richardson.

According to the Sunderland Echo, there is no truth in the reports linking Kieran Richardson with a return to the Stadium of Light before the transfer window closes.

It was reported by the Mirror that the Black Cats were eyeing up their former star as a potential target in the next two weeks, as head coach Dick Advocaat looks to strengthen his side after a disastrous start to the Premier League campaign.

Advocaat’s men have conceded seven goals in just two games, and Richardson was reportedly targeted as a new left-back to fix the issues with Patrick van Aanholt’s poor performance levels.

He is on the transfer list at Villa Park due to the summer signing of Jordan Amavi, and it is stated that Tim Sherwood is looking to get the 30-year-old off the club’s books before the transfer window ends.

However, the new report in the Echo suggests that he will not be heading to Sunderland, as the Wearside outfit are not planning a move for their former 149-game veteran.

It is stated that Advocaat is looking for more signings, but there is no truth in the report linking Richardson with a return to the Stadium of Light.
