Richards was named as one of Tim Sherwood’s first signings earlier this summer and Parlour has suggested that he can use his new status within the Aston Villa squad as a springboard to get back into the England side under Roy Hodgson.
“It’s great to see Micah Richards back in the Premier League – It could be a massive season for him because if he has a really top class season Roy Hodgson may say, look we can get him back into the England squad,” he told talkSPORT.
The key for Richards
The key for Richards in terms of his Aston Villa performances is to be consistent in the face of everything that comes along with being the captain of such a huge team.
He’s playing in the middle of the defence, which suggests there is an opportunity at international level, where there is a lack of options after the likes of Chelsea player Gary Cahill and Everton youngster John Stones.
However, pulling on the three lions shouldn’t be the player’s immediate priority or focus.
Richards should be more focused on ensuring that Aston Villa react well from defeat against Manchester United last week, dragging themselves into a good early position in the Premier League.
That will hopefully allow them to enjoy a more comfortable season than they endured last year.
