Report: Rangers close to agreeing loan deal for Arsenal’s Gedion Zelalem

Gedion Zelalem

The Gunners youngster could be the final component of Mark Warburton's Rangers rebuild.

Rangers are close to securing the services of Arsenal youngster Gedion Zelalem on loan, according to STV Sport.

Mark Warburton revealed yesterday that a deal for a player belonging to a Premier League club was ‘close’, and the highly-rated 18-year old appears to be that man.

The attacking midfielder represented Germany at the Under 15, 16 and 17 age-groups before switching allegiance to the United States and appearing for their Under-20 side, and has been catching the eye with his recent displays for the Arsenal youth team.

He has so far made two appearances for the Gunners’ senior side, appearing as a substitute in an FA Cup tie against Coventry City and a Champions League game against Galatasaray last year.

Zelalem possesses great technical ability and is adept at finding pockets of space between the opposition's midfield and defence to exploit.

His capture, alongside that of Spurs loanee Nathan Oduwa will add a real flair to the Rangers attack this season and should ensure entertainment is the order of the day at Ibrox, in the coming months.
