Everton manager Roberto Martinez has urged caution over the development of Romelu Lukaku, with comments covered by the Liverpool Echo.
The Belgian forward is the man of the moment at Everton after a superb performance and brace in the game against Southampton last weekend.
It’s a great start to the season for the striker, as he looks to fire the Toffees into a better league position over the next few weeks.
“He’s still a young man, don’t forget. He hasn’t played many games to understand how to be consistent yet,” Martinez told the Liverpool Echo.
“But in the last two games, he has been mature. (Southampton) reflects some of the best performances we saw in Europe last season, and if he can carry on doing that in the league on a consistent basis, I think we will see a player that can fulfil his potential.”
How can Lukaku improve his chances of consistency?
It’s important that he continues to be selected by Martinez and takes nothing for granted when he leads Everton’s attack.
He obviously has more chances to score and maintain his good form when he’s featuring on a weekly basis.
Martinez should be able to keep him in the team for a longer period, because the Toffees don’t have European football adding extra games to the fixture list this season.
He can’t take anything for granted because the second he starts to feel comfortable in terms of his performances, complacency will creep into his game and he may lose a little bit of the impact that he’s been showing.
