The former England international striker made the prediction following the Belgium international’s competitive home debut for the Reds.
The 24-year-old striker started Liverpool’s first home game of the 2015-16 Premier League campaign against Bournemouth on Monday evening.
The former Genk star, who joined the Merseyside outfit from Aston Villa last month, scored the only goal of the match in the 26th minute.
Former Tottenham star Lineker was following the game, and he was impressed with Benteke’s performance and made the following post on Twitter:
Contrary to the thoughts of some, I think Benteke will score a lot of goals for Liverpool and prove to be an excellent signing.— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) August 17, 2015
Former Manchester United and Leeds United defender Rio Ferdinand was also watching the game between Liverpool and Bournemouth at Anfield, and he too was pleased for Benteke.
The former West Ham United and Queens Park Rangers centre-back made the following posts on Twitter after the former Standard Liege man’s goal:
Happy for #Benteke ....changing the angle from the corner always catches a few defending off guard. New ruling...that's offside though?!?— Rio Ferdinand (@rioferdy5) August 17, 2015
