The defender managed two goals last season but says he was disappointed with that tally.
The defender got himself off the mark for the season on Saturday as he headed home the opener in the 2-2 draw with Stoke at White Hart Lane.
That goal made him the first to score for the club this season, after achieving the same thing last season with his later winner at West Ham.
One at QPR followed that goal at West Ham the week after last season, but he didn’t manage to bag any more beyond that point, and he says was disappointed not to add to it after such a good start.
“This season, I want to score more goals,” he told tottenhamhotspur.com.
“Last season I was disappointed because I scored the two early goals and didn’t score again. I had chances as well. There was one against City at home and I had one cleared off the line against Arsenal.”
Improvement from set pieces a big aim
Dier initially started his Tottenham career as a defender, with him having spent last season playing in both the right back and centre back positions under Mauricio Pochettino.
However, the Argentine has decided to use him as a defensive midfielder thus far this campaign to varied success. Playing in midfield will of course see Dier getting further up the pitch more this season than last, with more chances to add to his goal tally likely to be falling his way.
And he says he is looking to do just that, identifying an improvement from set pieces as a way to get himself on the score sheet more often.
“I could have scored a few more goals [last season] so this season, hopefully I’ll get past two,” he added.
“I know if I keep playing in midfield and keep doing well I’ll hopefully have more chances. I think I can do better from set-pieces and get in better positions.”
