Arsenal media round-up: Wenger repeats key message over strikers

A round up of news stories this morning about Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger has been quoted by the Daily Express reiterating his belief in the quality of Arsenal’s attacking ranks.

The Gunners could arguably need another attacking signing before the end of the transfer window, but Wenger feels his options are already healthy.

Olivier Giroud is currently the main man in attack, grabbing a goal in the win against Crystal Palace last weekend.

“We have good strikers. Walcott was not used and he’s an exceptional striker, Welbeck is coming back, we have Alexis,” he said.

Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has been quoted by BT Sport suggesting that Petr Cech is vitally important to the Gunners.

The big German has claimed that even when Arsenal lose, Cech is a key figure in the dressing room with ideas to get the side moving in the right direction.

Cech has enjoyed an indifferent start to his Arsenal career and is yet to keep a clean sheet in the Premier League.

“Petr is very experienced. You can feel that, he has lots of things to say and in the dressing room he gives us a great lift. Even when we lose a game, he has some great ideas on and off the pitch,” he said.

Mertesacker has also been quoted by the Guardian explaining that he and the other Arsenal defenders are still getting used to Cech.

One of the most important relationships in any team is how a defence interacts with their goalkeeper.

Hopefully it’s a relationship which can improve quickly, turning out to be a real strength for the club.

“Sometimes it takes longer than you think to get to know a new goalkeeper. The interaction between the goalkeeper and the back four has to be at the top level,” he said.
