Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has taken to social networking site Twitter to give his reaction to the offside controversy during Monday evening’s Premier League game between Liverpool and Bournemouth.
Former Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke’s goal in the 26th minute of the encounter proved to be the difference between the two sides at Anfield.
The strike was a controversial one, as there was a suggestion that it should have been ruled out due to offside.
When the 24-year-old Belgium international striker turned in Jordan Henderson’s cross, Brazil international attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho appeared to be in an offside position.
Former Newcastle striker Shearer was following the game, and this was his take on the offside decision on Twitter:
Over the course of 90 minutes at Anfield, Liverpool had 55% of the possession, took 18 shots of which just two were on target and earned six corners.
Visitors Bournemouth had 45% of the possession, took 13 shots of which only two were on target and earned eight corners.
