According to a report in the Italian outlet TMW, Everton have tabled a bid in the region of £5.6 million for River Plate’s highly-rated defender Ramiro Funes Mori.
The Toffees have been on the lookout for a new centre-back after releasing duo Antolin Alcaraz and Sylvan Distin this summer, while speculation over the future of John Stones rumbles on.
As per a previous report in the Liverpool Echo, Argentine centre-back Mori became the subject of Everton interest and talks were reportedly held between the clubs
Now, the fresh claims from Italy state the Toffees have tabled a bid in the last few hours as they look to complete a deal before the transfer window ends in the coming weeks.
Who is Ramiro Funes Mori?
The 24-year-old is an Argentine international and a key member of River’s squad who recently won the Copa Libertadores, beating Mexican side Tigres 3-0 in a two-legged affair.
He has plenty of experience and while naturally being a centre-back, he is versatile and able to play at left-back if required, giving boss Roberto Martinez plenty of cover if he moves to Merseyside.
The Goodison Park outfit have little options beyond John Stones and Phil Jagielka in the middle, therefore it’s imperative the club bring in at least one experienced centre-back before the window shuts.
