Rodgers says Coutinho just needs consistency to become a Liverpool great

The Liverpool boss has been speaking about one of his Brazilian internationals.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been speaking to the club’s official website about his young Brazilian maestro Philippe Coutinho.

The 23-year-old started the new season in outstanding form, scoring the kind of long-range goal that is quickly becoming his trademark in a 1-0 victory against Stoke City, but Rodgers believes he can get even better in time.

“It’s just consistency, and we have started to see that in his game,” Rodgers told “For me, at the age he is he’s only going to get better and better. But consistency is important for him and that’s something that he’s starting to really show.”

Coutinho may have surprisingly been omitted from the recent Brazil squad but that is in no way an indication of his blossoming talent and reputation. Indeed along with new signing Roberto Firmino, the young play-maker is one of his country’s most exciting talents and should become integral for both club and country in the years to come.

First though it is all about playing well for Liverpool week in, week out and if he can do that there is no telling how much success he could bring to Anfield.

Coutinho already has 103 appearances for Liverpool under his belt, and he has scored 17 goals and provided 21 assists in that time. But expect those tallies to increase swiftly in the months ahead.
