Newcastle, Sunderland, West Ham and Villa all reportedly want Andros Townsend

The Tottenham Hotspur winger is said to be attracting interest from West Ham United, Newcastle United, Sunderland and Aston Villa this summer.

According to a report from the Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend is wanted by four clubs this summer.

The report claims that Sunderland, West Ham United and Newcastle United have all joined Aston Villa in the race for the England international.

Villa manager Tim Sherwood knows the winger well from his time in charge at White Hart Lane but he will seemingly have to compete with three top-flight rivals if the 24-year-old does leave Spurs this summer.

Townsend has made 86 appearances for the North London club, scoring 11 goals and providing 14 assists in the process. However, the winger has yet to feature for Tottenham this season, and Pochettino’s use of the player in the previous campaign suggests his future could be away from the club.

After all, he played just 17 league matches and often came off the bench late on in that competition.

Newcastle could certainly do with some additional width and that is the one area of their squad that Magpies manager Steve McClaren looks most likely to strengthen in what remains of this transfer window.

West Ham could also do with another wide player while in many ways Villa are the side in least need of Townsend’s talents.

After all, Villa recently signed Adama Traore while they also have Jack Grealish, Carles Gil and Scott Sinclair who can all play out wide.

Sunderland are in desperate need of reinforcements after an awful start to the new campaign but the Tottenham winger is unlikely to pick a relegation scrap if he has his choice of clubs.

That could leave West Ham as the most likely option, certainly if he prefers a stay in London rather than a move to the North East.
