Jenkinson comments on the character in West Ham's squad

Upton Park

West Ham United defender Carl Jenkinson has been left impressed by the quality he's seen in the club's squad.

West Ham United defender Carl Jenkinson has told the club’s official website that he feels the side have shown some real character already this season.

It’s one win and one defeat for the Hammers in the Premier League from two games and the defender was positive following the loss at the hands of Leicester City over the weekend.

“I think the team has a lot of character. We showed that last week and we showed it again today. Obviously we didn't get the result we wanted and everyone, the team and the fans, will be very disappointed and rightly so,” he told whufc.com.

“We had a real go in the second half. No-one can deny that, we did have a real go and gave 110 per cent. On another day we'd have got a point out of the game as a minimum.”

Consistency needed

If West Ham are going to move forward this season and secure a positive position in the top half of the table, manager Slaven Bilic needs to make the side more consistent.

The difference between the performance against Leicester and the performance against Arsenal was quite remarkable and some consistency will help the Hammers to be more confident as they look to move forward.

Character, as Jenkinson mentions, is a vital quality that the side needs to show over the coming months.

The experienced players in the side all need to step up and ensure that training is of the right intensity and quality, to give the team a better chance of winning their next match against Bournemouth.
