Fjortoft reacts on Twitter to Per Mertesacker’s performance for Arsenal

Per Mertesacker

Per Mertesacker helped Arsenal win 2-1 against Crystal Palace away from home in the Premier League on Sunday.

Well-known Bundesliga pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft has taken to social networking site Twitter to give his reaction to Per Mertesacker’s performance for Arsenal against Crystal Palace away from home on Sunday afternoon.

Mertesacker started the Premier League encounter at Selhurst Park and played for the entire 90 minutes, helping the Gunners to a 2-1 victory.

Former Middlesbrough and Sheffield United forward Fjortoft was following the match, and he was impressed with the German central defender’s performance in the final 15 minutes of the contest.

Over the course of the 90 minutes against Palace, Mertesacker had a pass accuracy of 93%, won 75% of his headers, and made nine clearances and two blocks.

The 30-year-old has been on the books of Arsenal since 2011, but his performances last season were not that great.

The 2014 World Cup winner was slow and failed to read the game properly, and there are many who doubt whether he will be able to play regularly for Arsenal during the 2015-16 campaign.

However, Mertesacker remains an important player for Arsene Wenger’s side and his experience will come in handy as the season progresses.
