Former Premier League star Don Hutchinson has used his Twitter page to ask why Sunderland and Newcastle are not pursuing Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma..
The Mirror reported over the weekend that Serie A side AS Roma are keen on signing the centre-back on a season long loan, and are hopeful of pulling off a deal.
Zouma signed with Chelsea only last summer, and remains a promising talent, but could find his chances limited if the Blues sign John Stones from Everton.
Apparently Roma favourites to get Zouma on loan. Where on earth are Newcastle and Sunderland on this........— Don Hutchison (@donhutch4) August 17, 2015
Zouma would be an excellent temporary signing for either club, a young, hungry player with the intensity and speed which new Sunderland signing Younes Kaboul has sorely lacked in his opening two Premier League games for the club.
For Chelsea, sending him out on loan to a Premier League side could have benefits for them too as he gets more accustomed to the division.
Hutchinson has particular concerns over Sunderland, who have conceded seven goals in their opening two Premier League games, both losses, and believes their recruitment policy is flawed.
“@donhutch4: Who sanctioned Kaboul,Coates,D Graham,Bridcutt,Vergini,Altidore,,Roberge,ETC he should be sacked!!!!”— Don Hutchison (@donhutch4) August 17, 2015
Certainly something needs to change at Sunderland, but Zouma would be an outstanding loan signing for Newcastle too. Whether either could persuade him to snub Champions League football with Roma for a year, if he became available, is another matter.
