The Crystal Palace boss believes two of his key players are still not at full match fitness.
The Palace boss said: “I felt for Yala [Bolasie] a little bit because he hasn’t really done the work. I thought the sharpness of the game was a bit too early for him. My real exuberant players are just below the level, in my opinion. Wilf [Zaha] and Yala are not quite there yet physically.”
Considering we are only two weeks into the campaign, it should not be expected that any player is fully up to match fitness, and it says something that Palace are performing at such a high level despite being off 100%.
Both Bolasie and Zaha started the loss to Arsenal, and were it not for a Damien Delaney own goal, the Eagles surely deserved at least a point.
Neither winger could see out the full 90 minutes, but they impressed for the time they were on the field, and Zaha has already opened his goalscoring account having netted the opening strike against Norwich last weekend.
Palace held off a strong Arsenal side impressively, and despite not being at full fitness they should have come away with a draw.
If this is Alan Pardew’s side performing whilst still getting up to speed, it will be exciting to see Palace when they are playing at full match sharpness.
The Eagles look to be on the up, and if the performance in the loss to Arsenal is anything to go by, Palace can have real ambitions for success this season.
