One Aston Villa player has been praising another in an interview.
The former Blackburn Rovers player has already got off the mark for his new side, scoring in the 1-0 win against Bournemouth on the opening weekend, but he was unable to add to that when Villa lost by the same score-line against Manchester United on Friday.
Despite that, big things are expected of Gestede after he scored 22 goals for the Championship side last season, and Agbonlahor for one feels his new teammate is the perfect addition to Villa’s squad.
“He’s my dream strike partner,” the Villa captain told the Birmingham Mail. “He reminds me of John Carew with his presence.
“He’s probably the best I’ve seen and played with in terms of aerial presence.”
Gestede is a regular scorer with his head and the vast majority of his goals for Villa could well come from crosses and set-pieces, but that does not mean he is little more than a lumbering target-man.
Villa have signed a prolific striker with a point to prove and there is every chance he could go a long way to filling the hole left by the departed Christian Benteke.
Now the trick is for Agbonlahor and Gestede to form an effective partnership for Villa, and if they manage that, with the creative talent behind them Sherwood’s side could be in for quite a campaign.
