According to a report in the Italian news outlet Sportmediaset, Juventus are eyeing a late deal for Tottenham Hotspur star Erik Lamela.
However, he has for large parts of his Spurs career struggled to nail down a regular starting berth despite being given ample game-time to impress the club’s coaching staff.
Last season, boss Mauricio Pochettino handed Lamela as many as 29 Premier League appearances, with a return of just two goals fairly disappointing for a player of his talent.
While the club may be tempted to bite the bullet and cash in on him now, they would be making a big mistake in doing so due to the club’s evident lack of attacking options.
The North London outfit have been extremely quiet on the transfer front this summer, with the recent addition of Clinton N’Jie their only attacking signing to date.
Harry Kane cover is lacking, yet so is competition behind him in Pochettino’s 4-2-3-1 system as Mousa Dembele has been tasked with an attacking role so far this season despite not being that sort of player.

As per the table provided by Opta Stats, Lamela has been more of an attacking threat than his Belgian teammate having contributed directly to two more goals than Dembele.
While the former Roma star’s performances haven’t been great, he has still managed to average more shots, key passes and touches per Premier League appearance in 2015.
With Christian Eriksen, Nacer Chadli and now N’Jie the club’s only real creative players in the final third, it would only take an injury or two to prove that selling Lamela would be a big mistake.
