Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero got his season up and running after netting his side’s opener during their impressive 3-0 victory over Premier League title rivals Chelsea.
The Argentine international has been one of City’s standout players since moving to the Etihad Stadium in 2011, winning both the Premier League title and the club’s Player of the Year award twice.
Aguero has become a reference for goals among Premier League observers, with his wonderful pace, low sense of gravity and brilliant finishing ability combined making him pretty much the complete striker.
Against Chelsea, after missing a couple of early chances his superb first-half opener was a significant moment, not only for the team who went on to win 3-0, but for the player himself.
79 - Sergio Aguero has scored 79 PL goals since debuting for Man City, more than any other player in the league. Marksman.— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) August 16, 2015

Aguero was previously tied with ex-United striker Robin van Persie, although the Dutchman’s decision to trade the Red Devils for Fenerbache this summer has given his former rival the chance to pull clear.
It’s difficult to envisage Rooney ever catching up with Aguero, with the latter widely tipped to top the league’s scoring charts come May for the second season running.
While the real prize is of course the Premier League title, City’s 27-year-old hitman will know how important his goals will be to his side’s chances of coming out on top.
