The Danish international is not on his way to Newcastle United this month.
It was recently reported by Italian source Tutto Mercato Web that Newcastle United were making a move for Danish international defender Jannik Vestergaard of Werder Bremen.
The central defender, who previously rejected Everton’s overtures this summer, had reportedly been scouted by Newcastle over the past month.
However, that deal is certainly not going ahead.
Werder Bremen have already tried to distance themselves from the rumours and yesterday, after they lost 3-0 to Schalke 04 in their Bundesliga opening fixture, two men at the centre of the story spoke out.
The player himself has distanced himself from the rumours, telling Kreiszeitung Syke, as reported by the Express:
"I do not know anything about any interest in my services from clubs of England."
His boss went on to make it clear such talk was nonsense.
Werder Bremen general manager Thomas Eichin told the same source:
"We have not been receiving an offer for Jannik Vestergaard.
"Jannik is an important player in our first-team setup."
Newcastle have already brought in Chancel Mbemba this summer to strengthen their defensive positions but another newbie would not go amiss. Vestergaard would have been perfect, because of his pace and ability to also play at right-back.
However, it would appear that Vestergaard will not be heading to Newcastle or anywhere else for that matter this season.
