Report: Departing Aston Villa defender Philippe Senderos performs U-turn on his Turkish destination

Philippe Senderos Switzerland 2

The Swiss international is heading to Turkey this summer to play with Samuel Eto'o.

It was reported earlier in the week that Aston Villa defender Philippe Senderos had decided to make a move to Turkey this summer.

The Swiss international was reported by Eurosport to be on his way to Turkish Super Lig outfit Caykur Rizespor.

It is now being reported that it is not just Rizespor who are after the defender, with another Turkish side hopeful of securing his signature.

The team in question is Antalyaspor. According to Fotomac he has in fact decided to join Antalyaspor over his first option. The club are a very ambitious side who have made big signings this summer such as Slovenian star Dejan Lazarevic and former Everton star and Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o. They have also made attempts to sign Ronaldinho and Victor Valdes this summer.

Senderos is a much maligned figure in the English game but his time at Villa, after arriving on a free transfer from Valencia last summer, has been reasonable.

Unfortunately injury problems struck toward the end of last term and he now finds himself out of favour at Villa Park under the management of Tim Sherwood.
