The Tottenham Hotspur player said he only ever wanted to move to White Hart Lane.
Tottenham Hotspur’s latest signing Clinton N’Jie has been speaking to French newspaper L’Equipe following his arrival at White Hart Lane.
The 22-year-old signed from Lyon on his birthday and his task will now be to add more goals to a Spurs side that has struggled so far this season, picking up just a single point from their first two matches.
Shortly before N’Jie became Tottenham’s fourth signing of the summer – following in the footsteps of Kieran Trippier, Toby Alderweireld and Kevin Wimmer – reports began to circulate that Arsenal were attempting to hijack the deal (as claimed by Le Progress); but the forward has dismissed talk that he was ever close to a Gunners switch.
Speaking to L’Equipe, N’Jie said, “I’ve never been afraid that my transfer to Tottenham would not happen. I never spoke to the leaders of Arsenal, they only contacted my agent. My choice was made; I was determined to join Tottenham.”
That will be music to the ears of Spurs fans who will be hoping N’Jie blossoms into a great player at the club.
They will also no doubt be hoping he is not the last new face to arrive this summer, with another new striker and an experienced midfielder both vital if Tottenham want to push on and challenge for a top-four finish this season.
But whatever happens, they have N’Jie…with Arsenal missing out if they did indeed make contact late on.
