The Swans defeated the Magpies 2-0 at the Liberty Stadium in their second Premier League game of the season.
The Welsh outfit headed into the encounter on the back of a 2-2 draw with English champions Chelsea away from home at Stamford Bridge.
Garry Monk’s side were favourites to pick up all three points against Newcastle on Saturday, and they did so without facing too much problem.
Jonjo Shelvey set up Bafetimbi Gomis to round goalkeeper Tim Krul and slot into an empty net to give Swansea the lead as early as the ninth minute.
Newcastle went down to 10 men shortly before the half-time interval when defender Daryl Janmaat was sent off for persistently fouling Jefferson Montero, who provided the cross for Andre Ayew to head home the hosts’ second and final goal of the afternoon seven minutes into the second half.
Holland was following the game, and he was impressed with the performance produced by Swansea.
Swansea superb again today. Montero a constant threat, Shelvey ran the show 1st half and Ayew on a free is great business— Matt Holland (@mattholland8) August 15, 2015
