Liverpool transfer news: Sakho loan bid rejected; Lucas interesting Inter; potential £15m move for Illarramendi

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Liverpool

According to a report from the Telegraph, Liverpool have rejected a loan bid from Italian side AS Roma for their French centre-back Mamadou Sakho.

The former Paris Saint-Germain player is currently third choice defender behind Dejan Lovren and Martin Skrtel but that does not mean Reds boss Brendan Rodgers sees no future for him at Anfield.

Indeed, with the sheer number of games Liverpool will play this season Sakho will no doubt play a vital role.

The report claims Sakho is not a player Liverpool are actively attempting to sell due to their shortage of experienced defensive options, so this is one particular rumour to be quickly dismissed.

In other news, Tuttosport reports that Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva is a target for Inter Milan, with the Serie A side exploring the possibility of signing the 28-year-old in the next couple of weeks.

Another player who has fallen down the pecking order, the Brazilian could well move on, although given his talent Rodgers would be wise to keep hold of him if at all possible.

And finally the Telegraph is the latest newspaper to pick up on claims originating in Spain that Liverpool could be set to bid £15million for Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi.

The story began on Saturday morning when the Mirror ran a piece suggesting Liverpool’s transfer business may not yet be complete and now the Telegraph reports that the Reds are in talks for a player who would be a perfect replacement if Lucas does move on.
