Jamie Carragher takes credit for Ross Barkley performance, whilst Jack Grealish settles for applause

The Everton midfielder had one of his best ever games for the club v Southampton yesterday.

Everton got their season off the ground yesterday with a romping 3-0 win at Southampton.

One of the main talking points from the game was the performance of Ross Barkley.

The young England international scored one, set up another and started the counter attack for the first – it was an incredible display from the player.

After the game his performance could not go unnoticed by pundits and peers.

Jamie Carragher for instance was on Twitter immediately after the game showing his appreciation for the Everton star. Carragher, who is of course a Liverpool legend, had no qualms praising a cross-city rival after Barkley’s fantastic performance.

In fact, he even took credit for it:

Rio Ferdinand was also impressed.

The former Manchester United defender, who was also Tweeting about the excellent performance of Romelu Lukaku, is now just hoping that Barkley can come through the season unscathed from injury so he can show off his full potential.

Let #Barkley be fit for the full season pls....has the tools to really be special.

But whilst the pundits had their say on the matter perhaps a fellow player summed it up best.

After Barkley had netted his well-deserved goal, Aston Villa talent Jack Grealish simply put his virtual hands together.

Deserved applause indeed.
