Jackett speaks about Benik Afobe speculation following Aston Villa links

It seems the Wolverhampton Wanderers forward will not be heading to Aston Villa any time soon.

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Kenny Jackett has responded to speculation linking his striker Benik Afobe with a move to Aston Villa in an interview with the Express & Star.

The Express ran a report on Saturday that was always worth taking with a sizeable pinch of salt, claiming Villa manager Tim Sherwood wanted to add Afobe to his ever-increasing squad this summer.

Afobe would certainly be a canny addition given his considerable talent in front of goal, and the fact that he is still only 22, but why would Wolves sell?

Afobe only arrived at Wolves in January for £2million from Arsenal, and it already looks an absolute steal for a player who has scored 15 goals in 23 matches for the Championship side.

So could the young forward be on his way to Villa? Not if Jackett can help it.

Speaking to the Express & Star the Wolves boss said, “It’s not something we’re thinking about. Does it happen when you have good young players? Yes it does…and even last year there was quite a lot of speculation.”

Jackett then went on to explain how he intends to use Afobe this season, suggesting a move away from Molineux is simply not on the agenda.

Villa would certainly benefit from the free-scoring 22-year-old, but it seems they may have to look elsewhere if they do indeed want to add to a strike-force that already includes the likes of Rudy Gestede and Jordan Ayew.
