Brendan Rodgers: Liverpool still need Lazar Markovic and Alberto Moreno

The Reds boss has stated that both players are in his plans and will play a part in the Anfield outfit’s campaign.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that both Lazar Markovic and Alberto Moreno are still part of his plans and will be needed over the course of the campaign, as per FourFourTwo.

The Merseyside outfit started the 2015-16 season with a 1-0 away win over Stoke City last weekend and are set to face Bournemouth at Anfield on Monday night in their home bow.

Markovic was not in the match-day squad for the Reds against the Potters, with the likes of Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho, Jordon Ibe and Adam Lallana ahead of the Serbian in the pecking order for attacking midfield slots.

Moreno was first choice at left-back last season but the Spaniard has lost his place in the team to English youngster Joe Gomez, who moved to the club from Charlton over the summer.

Despite the fact that the expensive duo are likely to face prolonged periods on the sidelines, Rodgers has confirmed that they are still both in his plans.

"They know very well with conversations we have had that it is a long season and they will certainly be needed,” FourFourTwo quote the Northern Irish manager as saying.

"Both players are talented players, that's why they came here. For the first time in their careers maybe, they find themselves not being a regular.

"It's about taking the opportunity when it comes along and playing well and keeping it. I'm sure they will both be ready when the opportunity comes."

Liverpool will hope to secure another three points against Bournemouth tomorrow night, which would represent a good start to the campaign and lift hopes that the Reds can finish in the top four in 2015-16.
