The one-time England international was a key player in helping the Foxes achieve promotion from the Championship two seasons ago, scoring 20 goals in 46 appearances.
Last term, he played his part in the club’s Premier League campaign but towards the end was often restricted to place on the bench owing to heavy competition for places.
Leicester’s decision to sign Shinji Okazaki pushed Nugent further down the pecking order, resulting in plenty of speculation over his future and a proposed return to the Championship.
Only a top second-tier outfit could arguably tempt the striker, and Boro are exactly that as Aitor Karanka intends to go one better this season following their playoff final defeat last May.
With the signings of Stewart Downing and Christian Stuani bolstering their attacking ranks, the further addition of Nugent would suggest Boro now have all the tools to go out and claim promotion.
Nugent guarantees goals, and the former Preston striker’s arrival on Teesside has promoted both sets of fans to praise the Championship side’s end of the deal on social networking site Twitter.
Fair play, Downing and Nugent are two big signings for #mfc— Billy Seamus Fenelon (@BillyFensterFen) August 14, 2015
David Nugent to Boro. Good move for him, Leicester's way too stacked up front with the likes of Ulloa, Kramaric, Vardy, Okazaki... #lcfc— Jamie Umbach (@JamieUmbach) August 14, 2015
