Should Everton make a move for Ashley Cole after his Roma release?

The former Chelsea and Arsenal left-back has just been released by Roma.

Today saw Everton romp to victory against Southampton at St Mary’s in what was a fantastic performance from The Toffees.

The defence were fantastic however which might have put some nerves at rest regarding the future of the team’s back line.

The centre-back position has been troubled lately, but now it is left-back causing concern.

Regular Leighton Baines is out with an ankle injury until November. Luke Garbutt, on loan at Fulham, would not be able to play even if recalled as he is out until late October.

Brendan Galloway did a good job today and is a star for the future but a top-class left-back has just become available on a free transfer, so should Everton swoop?

The player in question is of course Ashley Cole.

Cole has been released by AS Roma after a disappointing stint in Italian football.

Despite that he is still only 34-years-old and still in great shape. He has over 107 caps for his country, has won three Premier League winners medals, as well as a plethora of other titles.

Cole is believed to be attracting interest from the United States, but a contract with Everton and a chance to take on the Premier League one last time would surely be impossible to turn down?

Everton would be right to roll the dice.
