Everton have got their season off the mark today with a fantastic victory against Southampton on the South Coast this afternoon.
It should have been a far tougher fixture, however they came out with a 3-0 away triumph with some fantastic individual performances.
The back-four were tremendous for Everton whilst James McCarthy was his usual imperious safe.
On top of that Romelu Lukaku was sensational up top, putting in his best performance for Everton in some time.
But young midfielder Ross Barkley again took some beating.
“We all know his talent. That’s why he is at Everton and why he is starting games even at such a young age.
“Sometimes you have to go through difficulties and face adversity in order to take it on board and I think the result is there.
“You get mature players who are prepared to work extremely hard and the quality shows.
“I think Ross today was perfect with his responsibility, the way he worked for the team was magnificent.
“The goal is just a reward for everyone I think. If you are a football lover you love that sort of technique.”
Barkley was in top form throughout the game. His outside of the boot assist for Lukaku was class and his excellent finish for his goal highlighted his talent.
He feigned to shoot, before cutting in onto his right foot and curling the ball beyond Maarten Stekelenburg in the Southampton goal.
Barkley managed to score just two goals all of last season, he has managed to meet that tally already after just two games of the 2015-16 campaign.
If he can keep this up, then he could be in line for his true breakthrough season.
