Celtic are interested in signing Dinamo Zagreb defender Jozo Simunovic before the summer transfer window shuts down next month, according to The Daily Mail.
It has been reported by the British tabloid that the Scottish Premiership champions are looking at the 21-year-old centre-back as a potential replacement for Virgil van Dijk.
Premier League duo Southampton and Everton are interested in Dutch defender Van Dijk, according to the report, which also claims that Zagreb want as much as £4 million for centre-back Simunovic.
Good move for Celtic?
Van Dijk is one of the most important players in the current Celtic squad and arguably the best centre-back in the Scottish Premiership.
The 24-year-old has been on the books of the Bhoys since 2013, and losing him would be a blow especially if Ronny Deila’s side qualify for the group stage of the Champions League.
Simunovic is a talented young defender who should be able to replace Van Dijk comfortably enough in the Premiership, but the Hoops should not rely on someone as young as him to get them far in the Champions League.
