Everton won 3-0 this afternoon at Southampton, romping to victory.
Prior to today’s fixture for Everton against Southampton down at St Mary’s a group of Everton fans decided to take part in the new, and awful, tradition of flying over a messenger plane to show disgruntlement at proceedings at your football club.
Liverpool and Manchester United have had to put up with these ‘fans’ before and now Everton were exposed to it.
The message read ‘Kenwright and co, it’s time to go’.
The reason behind the banner is clear. The club have not spent big this summer although that is understandable. They spent big money on Romelu Lukaku last summer and then had a poor season, cash must be in short supply.
Although, if Kenwright got a good offer for the club, there is no doubt he would sell for the good of his beloved Everton – of that there is no doubt, but the offers are not forthcoming.
However, Everton certainly answered any critics with their performance.
It was a tub-thumping counter-attacking display with a real clinical edge.
Southampton rarely lose at home and today Everton scythed through them on the break at will. They were faster, stronger and simply better.
Young star Brendan Galloway also shone, giving Roberto Martinez some hope for his top young talent coming through the ranks.
Everton will hope this is a sign of things to come this season.
