The former England international striker made the comments during the Matchday Live with Fletch & Sav show on Saturday morning.
“I saw him when West Ham played Charlton (in a pre-season friendly),” said Wright. “The forwards didn’t quite get onto the level the balls he was playing through. If they start getting to his level, then he could be the signing of the summer.”
Payet has played just twice in the Premier League, but he has already made a huge impression.
The France international was brilliant against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in North London last weekend, helping the Hammers to a 2-0 win.
Against Leicester City at the Boleyn Ground on Saturday afternoon, the 28-year-old scored in the second half to spark hopes of a comeback for Slaven Bilic’s side.
