Ian Wright reacts on Twitter to Memphis Depay’s performance against Aston Villa

Memphis Depay

Memphis Depay struggled to make an impression during Manchester United’s 1-0 win against Aston Villa away from home in the Premier League on Friday.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has suggested on social networking site Twitter that he was not pleased with Manchester United winger Memphis Depay’s performance against Aston Villa on Friday evening.

The 21-year-old started the Premier League encounter away from home at Villa Park and played until the 82nd minute, when he was replaced by England international winger Ashley Young.

Former Arsenal striker Wright was following the game, and he was seemingly not impressed with the performance produced by Depay.

Alluding to the fact that Young’s impressive displays last season cost Angel di Maria a place in the United starting line-up and eventually saw him leave for Paris Saint-Germain this summer, Wright made the following post on Twitter:

Depay is a hugely talented player, but he has yet to take the Premier League by storm.

The former PSV star has created just one chance in two league games for United so far, having a pass accuracy of 83% and winning two out of three dribbles in the process.

Against Villa on Friday evening, the Netherlands international took seven shots, had a pass accuracy of 79%, created one chance and put in four crosses.
