Ian Wright backs Louis van Gaal’s treatment of David de Gea

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has been linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid this summer.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has said on BT Sport that Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is justified in his treatment of goalkeeper David de Gea.

The Spain international goalkeeper has been left out of United’s first two Premier League games of the season against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane and Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Van Gaal was recently quoted as saying by The Guardian that De Gea does not want to play for the team any more amid speculation that he could be off to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Former Arsenal striker Wright believes that the Dutchman is doing the right thing by not including the 24-year-old in his team for competitive matches.

“I think Van Gaal is doing exactly the right thing with him,” Wright said during the Matchday Live with Fletch & Sav show on Saturday morning. “I feel if they can carry on without De Gea, then I think they should.”

De Gea is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and has been arguably the best player for United for the past two seasons.

The Spain international would be a huge miss for the Red Devils, if he does leave Old Trafford before the summer transfer window shuts next month.

However, Van Gaal’s side seem to be doing just fine without the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper at the moment.
