Sky Sports pundit and ex-Liverpool player Jamie Redknapp believes Adnan Januzaj has more to offer Manchester United - and is more talented - than £31million summer signing Memphis Depay.
The 20-year-old academy product scored the decisive first-half goal that saw off Aston Villa 1-0 on Friday, taking the Red Devils to the summit of the Premier League table, with six points from a possible six at the start of the new season.
Januzaj proved to be the surprise inclusion in Louis van Gaal's team at Villa Park, lining-up alongside Depay in the number '10' position, playing a support role to Wayne Rooney.
Speaking on Football Special, Redknapp argued the Belgian international is more than capable of providing the creative impetus for the club's captain and only recognised striker.
"The good news for Manchester United now is that Januzaj has come back into the equation," the former Liverpool-man said on Sky Sports. "He looked like a young man that could go out on loan, with talk of Sunderland maybe taking him.
"I think they have signed Memphis Depay for £31 million but they already had somebody in their ranks that is more talented. [Januzaj] is a special player.
"He wasn't magnificent [against Villa] by any stretch of the imagination but the arrogance he can afford to play with will come with confidence.
"He drifts past people and has a unique talent like that. He's the special player in this team, I think. He can turn people inside out."
Januzaj scored from his only attempt at goal versus Aston Villa, while he fashioned one key passes and completed more dribbles than any other United player (3).
Meanwhile, Depay largely struggled. The Dutchman recorded seven attempts at goal, hitting the target on just one occasions, while he also lost seven duels - winning just two.
It is far to say Januzaj enjoyed the better evening of the Manchester United youngster's, but one can foresee a bright future for them both in van Gaal's side.
