Roberto Soldado apologises to Spurs fans on Twitter after Villarreal confirmation

The Tottenham Hotspur forward has reacted on Twitter to his move back to La Liga.

Roberto Soldado has both thanked and apologised to Tottenham fans after his move to Villarreal was confirmed.

It never quite worked out for the Spaniard at White Hart Lane after a big-money move promised so much.

'Bobby' Soldado was prolific in Spain but, whether it was simply the physicality, the tactics or the lifestyle, it was never the same for the striker on these shores.

As such, he appears delighted to return to La Liga but it is also with a heavy heart that he has done so. Indeed, the 30-year-old has produced a touching gesture on Twitter, thanking Tottenham fans for their faith and support during a difficult two years for the Spaniard.

But Soldado has also apologised for not fulfilling his potential at the Lane. And it has certainly taken some courage to do so.

It remains to be seen who replaces Soldado at Spurs but fans will no doubt hope for more success from whoever comes in. If only things could have been different - but the 30-year-old can still leave with his head held high. He hasn't hit out at Tottenham in frustration but simply shown that he is a forward with honour and grace. There are a few who wouldn't be so professional...
