The Rams are looking for midfield cover for Will Hughes, who received an injury in the opening game of the season, and believe Prichard can fulfil that role.
They are said to have made an approach to Spurs to loan Pritchard for the season, but the offer was quickly rebuffed by the North London club.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is unwilling to let him leave the club, even on a loan, as he sees the England Under-21 international a figure in his senior side after his impressive loan spell with Brentford last term.
The youngster played 47 games for the Bees, scoring 12 goals, and Pochettino wants to utilise Pritchard in the first-team this campaign. There is currently a lack of attacking cover, and his versatility to play in any of the three positions behind the striker makes him a wise option.
There are no indications as to whether the Rams will return with another approach, or whether Pochettino’s plans to involve Pritchard in the first-team mean they will have to look elsewhere for midfield signings.
