Sherwood snapped up Gestede earlier this summer following the decision of ex-Villa striker Christian Benteke to take a move to link up with Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool.
Robinson has explained that Sherwood was looking at Gestede, formerly of Blackburn, even when he didn’t have a job at Aston Villa.
“He’s a hard worker, he’s strong and a typical striker - I remember speaking to Tim a while ago and he was speaking about a couple of players, and he was one of them, even when he was out of work,” he told talkSPORT.
A good start for the forward
Gestede will be full of confidence because he got off to a good start last weekend when he got the winner in the game against the Cherries.
He’ll need some time to produce his very best form, but his chances of achieving the sort of consistency needed to have a big impact at the club, will be better if he believes he deserves to be playing Premier League football.
Manchester United this evening represent an entirely different challenge for the player and the United defenders will be wiser to the physical presence that Gestede adds to the equation for Aston Villa.
Louis van Gaal may even put a player on him to try and ensure that he finds it difficult to get into the match, but Sherwood will be hoping that he only needs one decent chance to make the difference.
