John O’Shea discusses Sunderland transfers, comments on Fabio Borini

Sunderland Gates

Sunderland are reportedly looking to bring Fabio Borini back to the Stadium of Light.

Borini has been linked with a return to the Stadium of Light, and Sunderland defender O’Shea wants to see more quality additions, whilst also commenting on the Italian striker to the Daily Mail.

He said: “We have lost Adam [Johnson] the other day for a good few weeks now as well - you are going to get things like that and if we do get a few additions in, you would be hoping that's the competition that the manager spoke about for increasing the depth of the squad, but also the quality of the squad.

“I know the type of character he [Borini] is - and obviously you saw it yourself on the pitch, how he plays - he is so positive, so in Fabio's mind, he was going back to Liverpool to play, to break in. Obviously it didn't go to plan for him, so now he's got another step in his career to make.”

Borneo’s potential return to Wearside was reported by the Sunderland Echo, with the Black Cats looking to bring the Italian forward in on a season-long loan deal.

He spent the 2013/15 campaign at the Stadium of Light, and managed to net 10 goals as he played a key role in keeping the club in the Premier League.

Head coach Dick Advocaat has made no secret of the fact that he wants to bring in more players, and a striker is one of those on his transfer list.

Only Jermain Defoe is considered of the required Premier League quality, and the Dutch boss wants a forward capable of leading the line in his 4-3-3 system.

Clearly he believes that Borini is capable of doing that, and he is a player who will increase both the depth and quality of the Black Cats’ squad - which is what O’Shea wants.

With just over two weeks of the transfer window left, Sunderland will need to move quickly if they are to complete the deals they wish to see through, and it appears as if Borini is at the top of that list.
