Everton fans react on Twitter to Leigton Baines' latest injury set-back

Here is how Everton fans reacted to the latest news regarding Leighton Baines' three month injury lay-off.

Leighton Baines is set to miss more than three months of Everton's season after undergoing ankle surgery, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The Everton left-back suffered ligament damage in training last week, and having had surgery on the same ankle earlier this calendar year, he has now undergone a second operation in a bid to cure the issue.

Baines is now set to be out of action until November at the very earliest, meaning he could miss more than a dozen league matches, including the Merseyside derby against Liverpool, as well as five games for the Three Lions.

This leaves Everton head coach Roberto Martinez searching for a temporary replacement for the England international.

Reports have linked with the club with a loan move for former Manchester United defender Alex Buttner, according to the Daily Mail.

Meanwhile, Costa Rica international Bryan Oviedo has also been tipped to feature more regularly.

Of course, Luke Garbutt - who would have been a definite replacement for the England international - is unavailable for selection following his loan move to Championship outfit Fulham.

Leighton Baines made 31 league appearances for the Toffees last season, fashioning an impressive 70 key passes in the final third.

Meanwhile, he completed 84% of his attempts to find a teammate, while winning 54% of his tackles and 53% of his take ons.
