Aston Villa media round-up: Adebayor wants London stay, Amalfitano is targeted

Trinity Road Stand - Aston Villa

A selection of stories in the media involving Aston Villa in the last 24 hours.

West Ham outcast Morgan Amalfitano is believed to be interesting both Villa and West Brom, as per the Express and Star.

The 30-year old has been banished to train with the Hammers' Under-21s after a fall-out with Slaven Bilic and a move to the Midlands could now be on the cards.

The Birmingham Mail reports that long-linked striker Emmanuel Adebayor has snubbed Villa, with his preference being to remain in London.

The Togolese striker is no longer wanted at Spurs and had looked set to reunite with Tim Sherwood at Villa but any potential deal would now appear to be off.

Meanwhile, Villa flop Philippe Senderos is nearing a switch to Turkish side Rizespor, according to Eurosport.

The former Arsenal man has struggled with injury since his arrival last summer and now looks set to bid fairwell to the Premier League having fallen down the pecking order following Tim Sherwood’s appointment.

Ronald Koeman has reacted strongly to reports that Villa have opened talks with Southampton for centre-back Jose Fonte.

Speaking at a press conference - covered by the club's official Twitter account - the Dutchman said:

“He is our captain, he is a very strong defender, he's a club man, like Kelvin Davis. I don't have one second in my mind to sell that player. He is part of the team, he is the captain. No, there is no way to sell the player."

Finally, Tim Sherwood has laughed off recent reports linking Monaco stalwart Aymen Abdennour with a move to Villa Park.

The Villa boss claimed to be unaware of the defender at a Villa press conference (aired on AVTV) yesterday, stating:

“I don’t know him,” before joking: “I don’t know the player so we probably are!”
