Amalfitano is being forced to train with West Ham’s Under-21 team.
He said: “I would just say that my first and foremost job is to protect the whole team - myself, the staff and players. If I see anything or anyone threatening to harm the atmosphere and transgress those rules, then it has to be stopped. I have to protect the team.”
As reported by the Mail yesterday, Amalfitano has been kicked out of the team by Bilic due to missing a team meeting planned by the head coach.
He has been forced two stay away from senior training, and is instead training with the Under-21 side - with no clear route back into the senior set-up.
Amalfitano has shown a poor mentality before during his time with the Hammers, being disciplined by Sam Allardyce last season after he was sent off in an FA Cup tie with West Brom. Just 10 minutes after entering the game, the French midfielder received a yellow card for tackling Chris Brunt - before immediately being dismissed after pushing the same player.
However, this is the first time that he has been banned from training with the squad, and it appears as if Amalfitano is being used as an example by Bilic to prevent anyone else from causing issues at the Boleyn Ground.
Bilic has admitted that he punished Amalfitano for the overall good of his team, and it would come as no surprise to see him take an even tougher stance on other players if they step over the line later in the season.
