Report: Former Newcastle United boss Chris Hughton wants to reunite with Mike Williamson at Brighton

The central defender does not appear to have a future at St James Park.

Newcastle United are looking for suitors for their central defender Mike Williamson and have seemingly found one in a former Newcastle manager.

According to the Shields Gazette the 31-year-old defender is a major target for Brighton and Hove Albion, currently managed by former Toon boss Chris Hughton.

Hughton snapped up Williamson from Portsmouth in 2010 and he went on to become a regular member of Newcastle’s starting XI under Hughton and now he would like to be reunited with the player in the Championship.

Williamson has fallen down the pecking order at St James Park and it does not look like he will be playing regular football this season.

He struggled for form toward the end of last season and most Newcastle fans feel the time is right for him to move on from the club.

Williamson, who was linked with Leeds United earlier in the summer, has seen Chancel Mbemba arrive at the club as well, making his opportunities at the club even less likely.

Brighton, who are fighting to keep hold of their central defender Lewis Dunk, would certainly not mind bringing in a Premier League defender this summer.
